2008 Awards

When is it on?

This year's Awards Presentation Dinner was held on Saturday 1 November at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough.

Each year Wide Bay Group Training holds its Annual Group Training Awards Night to honour the highest achievers of the year and recognize their efforts.

A range of awards are presented to both apprentices and trainees, as well as host employers.

 

2008 Award Winners:

 

APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR

Rachel Niemann

Host Employer:  Hatchett's Joinery, Murgon

 The option of being able to complete her apprenticeship part time, permitted  Rachel the flexibility to juggle family demands with those demands required for  work and college training.   Married with two children, Rachel has been able to offer different perspectives and value add to her host employer.  Throughout the entire process, Rachel has not sacrificed or reduced any of the calibre of her work, yet has still positioned herself with the capacity to complete early.  WBGT nominated Rachel for this year's Qld Training Awards where she proceeded to win both the regional and state finals.  These accomplishments, affort Rachel the chance to represent Qld and contest the national title which will be decided in Darwin on November 20.

 

 TRAINEE OF THE YEAR

 Rebekah Dukes

 Host Employer:  Tarong Energy, Nanango

Rebekah's commitment and progress through the study and develomental aspects of her Cert. III in Business, has gained her praise and recognition from her supervisors.  Rebekah spent the first 3 months of her traineeship within the warehouse, before rotating to the health and safety department.  Rebekah was then asked to relieve in her supervisor's role for a period of 5 weeks.  Rebekah quickly set about rising to the challenge in order to fulfull the obligations that this level of responsilility entailed.  Her interpersonal and time management skills, plus a diligence and attention to detail, has been the foundation that has allowed Rebekah to excel.  If she continues with the same standing, enthusiasm and monentum she has displayed thus far, she is assured of continued success. 

 

SCHOOL BASED TRAINEE OF THE YEAR

Patrick McCallum

Host Employer: Swicker's Bacon Factory, Kingaroy

Patrick has exercised a high degree of  flexibility as he goes about juggling his family, school, work, training and sporting responsibilities.  Patrick has already completed the theoretical components of his traineeship qualification yet is forging on only to further sharpen and diversify his practical skills and knowledge.  He has impressed Swicker's Bacon Factory with his tremendous academic intelligence, speediness to acquire knowledge and willingness to "go the extra mile" in the pursuit of his goals.  His willingness to delve and ask questions that enhance his level of understanding is an admirable and valuable trait with a 16yr old.  At Swicker's there is a great deal of importance placed on an employee's ability to multitask and assist in a variety of roles.  Patrick has achieved this with success.

 

ATSI TRAINEE OF THE YEAR

Barbara Stewart

Host Employer: Tarong Energy, Nanango

Barbie has shown herself to be an amazing talent in practising the underpinning knowledge and theoretical aspects of her Cert. III Business Administration traineeship by applying them to her daily working environment.  Having the good fortune of working within the human resources/training development division of Tarong Energy, Barbie has enhanced and honed her organisatinal abilities and has proven herself to be an extremely accommodating and amiable member of staff.  In all the she produces, she aims to do so in a precise, timely and professional manner and she has managed a level of expertise that has both impressed and far exceeded our expectations of a trainee.
